Tim Thornton: Leeds United will spend a few quid on new striker

Leeds United will invest heavily in a striker this summer as well as replacing Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha according to Sky Sports journalist Tim Thornton.

The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano reported (4 July) that Leeds are set to bring in RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams.

Romano also reported via his personal Twitter account (5 July) that the Whites are closing in on a deal for Colombian winger Luis Sinisterra from Feyenoord.

Despite their recent influx of transfer activity, Thornton still believes the Whites will invest heavily in a striker.

The Sky Sports journalist told GIVEMESPORT on Tuesday 5 July: “I think they’ll sign three players.

“They’ll sign a midfield player, they’ll sign a winger if Raphinha goes and they’ll probably look to spend a few quid on a striker as well.”

What a summer so far

The speed at which Leeds are moving in their transfer dealings is fairly staggering.

Victor Orta and Jesse Marsch are identifying targets and getting deals over the line before other clubs even get a sniff of hijacking any deal.

The striker position is clearly an area that Marsch needs to strengthen in the coming weeks, with Patrick Bamford needing some adequate competition for the 2022/23 season.

Leeds haven’t been scared of paying a transfer and it wouldn’t be a shock to see a Marsch and the club hierarchy invest in a high-profile striking addition to give the Whites a focal point up front.

The Yorkshire side are yet to be linked to an out-and-out number nine at present but it would not be a shock to see Marsch turn his attention to a marksman once he has finalised the Adams and Sinisterra deals.

The mood surrounding Elland Road has already risen since the culmination of last season and a marquee striker coming through the doors at Thorp Arch would raise the optimism around the club even more.

In other Leeds United news, the club have now opened talks with an ‘Incredible’ title-winning central midfielder to replace Kalvin Phillips.
