Tim Sherwood makes Leeds United prediction live on Sky Sports after win v Leicester
Tim Sherwood has backed Leeds United to earn automatic promotion back to the Premier League after their 3-1 win over Leicester City.
The Whites came from behind to maintain their 100% record in 2024 thanks to goals from Connor Roberts, a Wout Faes own goal and Patrick Bamford to move to within six points of top spot in the Championship table.
And while speaking about the promotion race live on Soccer Saturday (24 February), Sherwood gave credit to the “incredible” Leeds fans for their role in the win and admitted he would love to see them back in the top flight.
“Please give us back Leeds United into the Premier League,” he said. “Amazing.
“I watched that game last night and they were never, ever coming back from that game unless it’s from them home fans there. They get behind them like you would not believe.
“We loved going there. It was one of the cup finals for me every season, going to play at Elland Road against it with the crowd so raucous. They were the assisters there last night.
“I think they get automatic promotion. I’m not sure anyone catches Leicester for the championship but I’m not sure they’re bothered about that. They want automatic promotion and I think because of that fan base they will finish above Ipswich and Southampton.
“They fill their stadiums, both sets of fans, but the support that lot give them last night was incredible. Please give us them back in the Premier League.”
Leeds United are a Premier League club
The Whites may well be in the Championship right now, but they’re a Premier League club in every way.
The fans come out in numbers like nobody else can in this division, the squad is far too good to be playing in the second tier and Daniel Farke has mastered the Championship too.
The performances this season have so far earned them a spot to go back up where they want to be, but they have to be consistent between now and the end of the season to ensure it stays that way.
Everyone knows that the top flight is better when the Whites are in it, with trips to Elland Road often the most difficult away days for the top clubs and the fans all love it too.
It’s a Premier League in every facet right now, now they must keep getting the results to turn that into a reality for next season and get back to where they deserve to be.
