Tim Sherwood destroys Junior Firpo in Leeds loss v Liverpool
Tim Sherwood has destroyed Leeds United defender Junior Firpo after the 3-0 defeat against Liverpool on Sunday.
The Spaniard played his first 90 minutes for the club since arriving from Barcelona and was given the task of marking Mohamed Salah.
Sherwood wasn’t impressed and insisted that the left-back had a “terrible” afternoon and wished he never got out of bed before the game.
Speaking to Premier League Productions yesterday, Sherwood singled out the left-back and hoped he could deliver better performances soon.
“Firpo wishes he could turn back the clock,” the Sky pundit said.
“He has had a terrible time and wishes he never got out of bed. Firpo had a bad game, he is going to have better games than that, surely?
“You see Firpo there. I know I am digging him out. He’s meant to be marking Fabinho (second goal). He doesn’t know where he is going.”
It is hard to single out one player after yesterday’s defeat, with no one really catching the eye other than Kalvin Phillips.
Firpo wasn’t dreadful when one-on-one with Salah, and made many crucial tackles as the game went on – the problem started when the Reds were playing little intricate passes around him.
The Spaniard looked a little lost positionally at times, but none more so than seasoned campaigner Luke Ayling, who was also all over the place.
One thing that we can say for sure is that defensively we were all over the place as a collective, and that is from our press on their defence, through midfield and into our own back four.
Something needs to change quickly, and the Whites desperately need to start picking up some points in this favourable run ahead.
