‘Tidy’ Leeds United star Ethan Ampadu shines in 8/10 Wales display
Leeds United ace Ethan Ampadu was in stellar form as Wales drew with Turkey in Friday’s (6 September) Nations League encounter.
The versatile Leeds skipper was employed as a holding midfielder and put in a strong performance for his country.
Wales’ national media reacted to his performance with Wales Online stating that his possession of the ball helped contribute to a “Tidy” performance.
“Was given far more opportunity to express himself in the holding midfield role. Tidy in possession all evening,” Tom Coleman wrote for the outlet’s website (6 September). Wales Online gave the midfielder an 8/10 for his outing.
Ben Thomas wrote for the online outlet The Football Club (6 September): “Another strong performance from Ampadu in midfield who has now surpassed the 50 cap mark at the age of just 23 years old. Bellamy described him as a future captain of the national side and it’s easy to see why with the footballing brain he possesses. He looked to drop deeper as the link between defence and attack.” The Football Club gave Ampadu a 7/10 for his performance during the game.
Ethan Ampadu has really come into his own this season for Leeds United
Ampadu’s solid performance for his national side hasn’t just been a one-off this season. Since the 2024/25 campaign kicked off, the Welshman has been stellar in Daniel Farke’s squad.
The former Chelsea man has been an anchor to the Whites’ midfield and has helped solidify the team on more than one occasion.
Although the 23-year-old was mainly deployed in the centre-back role for the West Yorkshire outfit last season, it feels like he has really come into his own this term.

Ampadu has more than fulfilled the void left by Glen Kamara’s exit and for now at least, looks to be a better option in the centre of the club’s midfield.
The fact that Farke made the midfielder his captain this season also shows how much faith he has in him.
There is still plenty of time left in the season for things to change but at this moment in time, it’s hard to see new arrivals Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell getting minutes over the Welshman.
In other Leeds news, Willy Gnonto has seemingly suffered an injury while on international duty.
