Three players a doubt for clash v Brentford

Leeds have been hit with a triple injury blow ahead of the Championship game against Brentford on Wednesday night.

Talking in the pre-match press conference at Thorp Arch on Tuesday (live on the official LUFC app), manager Marcelo Bielsa confirmed that Liam Cooper, Barry Douglas and Ejgzan Alioski were all doubts for the game but hadn’t been ruled out yet.

“Cooper, Douglas and Alioski – we are not sure these three players can play the game but we cannot say they cannot play either,” Bielsa said.

Alioski hasn’t started a Championship game yet this season, with Douglas taking the left-back position. However, if both players are out then it could open the door for 19-year-old Leif Davis who came on as a substitute in the opening game of the season against Bristol City.

Cooper will be a big miss in the centre – especially after Pontus Jansson left to join Wednesday’s opponents – but Leeds have Gaetano Berardi ready to come in and play alongside Ben White.

Alternatively, Pascal Struijk could come in for Cooper and Berardi could play out on the left. However, he played 90 minutes for the Under-23s on Monday which suggests that he won’t feature.

Another option is for Stuart Dallas to switch to the left with Jamie Shackleton on the right.

Injuries blighted last season for Leeds and fans will be dismayed to see three first-team defenders potentially out in just the third game of the season.
