Paul Merson has claimed that Chelsea could come unstuck against Leeds United on Saturday evening in the Premier League.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men travel to Stamford Bridge looking to continue their impressive run after a draw with Arsenal and that win over Everton last week.
Merson believes that Frank Lampard’s side will need to match the intensity and fitness level of the Whites or they could easily be picked off.
Speaking on Sky Sports, via the Yorkshire Evening Post, Merson has predicted a very difficult evening for Chelsea against the Whites.
“You have to match them because they are so fit,” he said. “They just constantly keep on running.
“They’ve got skill, they can pick a pass, they all know what they’re doing – it’s phenomenal watching them. I love watching them play.
“Tonight, it’s a very, very difficult game for Chelsea. If they don’t match Leeds – their endeavour, their hard work, and everything about Leeds – Chelsea will come unstuck. They will come unstuck.”
Not many teams match Leeds.
That isn’t just in the Premier League either, they actually have the highest sprint output of any side across Europe according to the Training Ground Guru.
It isn’t surprising that the Whites cover the most distance sprinting in games, and it also leads to an impressive running record just in terms of distance covered.
Leeds have covered the most distance, as well as topping the charts for recoveries, pressures and tackles won [LUFCDATA] – something that could seriously unsettle Chelsea this evening.
Having watched Lampard’s men, not many sides have pressured them and have instead sat back and welcomed the pressure. It will be interesting to see how they react to the complete opposite.
