‘They definitely can’ – Sky Sports pundit fires big promotion warning to Leeds and West Brom
Sky Sports pundit Sue Smith has fired a warning to both Leeds United and West Brom, saying that Brentford could “definitely” finish in the top two this season.
Brentford were the only team in the top six to win over the set of weekend fixtures, doing Leeds a favour by beating Fulham 2-0.
Leeds lost 2-0 to Cardiff while West Brom were held to a 0-0 draw with Birmingham.
Talking on The Football Show (Sky Sports, Monday, 11am) host Rob Wotton said of Leeds, “Oh my goodness is it happening all over again?”
He asked whether Brentford could win promotion automatically and Smith said, “They definitely can. They’re an exciting team who have gone under the radar. Don’t look at them in any other way, they’re a really exciting team.
“They’re the ones to watch at the moment and the top two will be looking over their shoulders.”
Brentford manager Thomas Frank had all but written off his side’s chances of a top-two finish ahead of the restart.
However, a win at Craven Cottage will give them a huge boost of confidence and, after the game, Frank said that his side had to beat Fulham to stand any chance.
He went on to say that now they’ve done that, they can fire for the top two.
It doesn’t get any easier for them, though, with West Brom heading to Griffin Park on Friday night for another mega game.
We’d take a draw ahead of our blockbuster clash with Fulham on Saturday but a Baggies win would be a great result too.
Wins for West Brom and Leeds would see the Baggies stay top but it would create real daylight between us and the rest of the pack.
