'They can run' - BBC pundit predicts score in Leeds v Man City clash

Mark Lawrenson has predicted a home loss for Leeds United when they take on Manchester City at Elland Road this weekend.

In his weekly predictions for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said he thinks Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will win 2-1 when they travel to Leeds, as they look to get back to winning ways following last weekend’s home loss to Leicester.

The former Liverpool defender has credited Marcelo Bielsa’s side as ‘fabulous’ this season, and is ‘expecting a very good game’ between Leeds and Man City on Saturday evening.

Lawrenson said, “Leeds are still strengthening their squad but the one thing you can be sure about with all of their signings is that they can run. A pre-requisite for all of their players seems to be that they can cover some ground.

“Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been fabulous so far and it is going to be fascinating to see how he approaches this game against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

“Guardiola will have a plan too, of course, but both coaches have a mutual admiration of each other. City looked unprepared in their defeat by Leicester last weekend, which is most unusual for them under Guardiola – I am pretty sure it won’t happen again here.

“I am expecting it to be a very good game. A lot of teams show massive respect to City and sit deep but I don’t think Leeds will do that.”

Patrick Bamford will be looking to keep up his goal-per-game record when the White’s welcome the Citizens to Elland Road. The English striker will no doubt be looking forward to testing a defence that conceded five goals to Leicester last weekend.

Pep Guardiola will be demanding a reaction following City’s humbling defeat to the Foxes and will be expecting a much-improved performance from his side. He will be fully aware of how impressive Leeds have been this season, but will also look at a defence that has conceded seven goals in three league games and see a weakness in Leeds United’s game that can be exploited.

The game looks like it could be goal-fest if you look at the recent records of both sides. Leeds have scored eight and conceded seven in their three league games this season, while City have scored five and conceded six in their two games. Two goal-scoring sides with leaky defences, could mean we are in for fireworks on Saturday.

No doubt Leeds fans will be licking their lips about the prospect of this one. These are exactly the types of games fans will have been looking forward to now that Leeds are back in the big time.
