The reason for Summerville's collapsed loan away from Leeds United

Leeds United starlet Crysencio Summerville was hoping that the January transfer window would see him loaned out to play more first-team football.

There was significant interest in the 20-year-old, especially from Hamburg SV in the German second division who made a late bid for the Dutch winger [Hamburger Morgenpost].

But the deal never materialised and now 24Hamburg are reporting the reasons behind the collapse of the transfer.

“The intended transfer of Crysencio Summerville was considered extremely realistic but ultimately failed due to the fact that Leeds United had not found a suitable replacement for his offensive talent,” they report.

Also in their report of events, they mention that “Summverville remains in England and will not join the Hanseatic League, at least for the time being,” suggesting that a future move may not be out of the question.

He needs to play

It is such a shame that Summerville didn’t get the move he desired and now he faces spending the rest of the season travelling the country to sit on the bench.

At 20 years of age, the Dutchman needs games more than ever and Hamburg could have offered him a glorious chance to play every week and find some form that would help him upon his return to Elland Road.

But he has been forced to stay as Marcelo Bielsa was unable to get a replacement through the door in time but that shouldn’t;t have been a factor.

Daniel James, Raphinha, Jack Harrison, Stuart Dallas, Rodrigo and Tyler Roberts are all players who do or could play in the wing if needed so to say there isn’t enough cover is nonsense.

The only reason Summerville is still at the club is because Bielsa has so few players available as a result of injuries (largely caused by the overly-intense work he subjects them to on the training ground).

If Bielsa took his foot off the player’s necks in training, he may have a few more options available to play and Summerville and his peers could get game time elsewhere, rather than just the Under-23s.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could be in for a battle over this international star.
