The Mirror’s Anderson shares major Leeds United update on Patrick Bamford after Sunday news

Leeds United hope Patrick Bamford will be back from injury for the club’s final three games of the season according to The Mirror’s David Anderson.

The striker limped out of the win over Wolves in tears after his latest injury set back, in a season blighted by them.

The club announced on Sunday (27 March) that the 28-year-old was set to be out for “minimum of six weeks” having ruptured the plantar fascia in his foot, putting his participation in any part of the remainder of the season in major doubt.

But there is apparent optimism behind the scenes that Bamford will still get the chance to have a telling impact on what has been a nightmare campaign for him, against Arsenal, Brighton and Brentford.

Anderson wrote on his Twitter account this afternoon (29 March, 12.49pm): “Leeds feel Patrick Bamford’s could recover from his foot injury for their last three games in May. Also Raphinha, Phillips, Cooper, Llorente, Klich and Meslier should all be back for Southampton on Saturday.”

Final hope

Nobody should bank on anything positive for the former-Middlesbrough front man based on how this year has gone.

He has cruelly had his recovery work dashed too many times in a season that has seen some of the worst injury luck in recent Whites history.

But what appeared to have put the final nail in the coffin of Bamford featuring before next season may not have been so final after all.

The previous back-to-back wins have made the threat of relegation slightly more distant.

But Jesse Marsch’s side cannot take anything for granted yet, and it is possible that results over the next six weeks leave them back in trouble.

If that is the case then the return of the team’s main goal scorer would be a big boost.

But everyone around Elland Road will hope that survival is secured by then and the potential inclusion of Bamford is a luxury rather than a necessity.

In other Leeds United news, with a £1billion “spending spree like no other” on the horizon, the club could both benefit and suffer as a result.
