The Athletic: Patrick Bamford close to signing new Leeds United contract

Patrick Bamford is close to signing a new contract at Leeds United while Kalvin Phillips is in line for a pay rise, according to The Athletic.

On a day when Junior Firpo hogged the headlines after his transfer from Barcelona was announced, some important contractual information was detailed by The Athletic journalists Adam Crafton and Mark Carey.

Crafton wrote on his personal Twitter profile that Leeds were “closing on Bamford extension”.

Within an article on new signing Firpo, the journalists delved deeper into some contract news.

They wrote: “Kalvin Phillips, starring at Euro 2020 for England, will not be sold this summer and although his contract still has three years to run, the club are conscious that the midfielder may merit a pay rise to reflect his growing stature on the international stage.

“Midfielder Stuart Dallas has already signed a new three-year contract and discussions are progressing well with Patrick Bamford over a renewal.”

Unreal double deal

Like most fans in football, Leeds fans are desperate to see new faces arrive at their club this summer.

The Whites confirmed the permanent capture of Jack Harrison from Manchester City last week while a deal for Firpo has finally been announced now as well.

Further additions are craved and probably required in order to build on last season’s success, but the most important thing is to keep hold of our most integral players.

Bamford and Phillips certainly fit into that category, as they are probably among our top five most crucial stars.

A new deal has been mooted for Bamford for a long time but it will be great to see him finally put pen to paper after a sensational season where he scored 17 Premier League goals.

Meanwhile, Phillips has seen his reputation soar after becoming a driving force in the England midfield that has booked a Euro 2020 semi-final clash with Denmark on Wednesday.

It looks like being an exciting start to the summer, Whites.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are in the hunt to sign this EUROs semi-final sensation who wowed Micah Richards in June.
