The Athletic names likely winner in Leeds United and Brighton race to sign Mohamed Camara

Leeds United appear to be losing the race to Brighton for the services of Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara.

According to The Athletic, the 22-year-old midfielder is on the radar of both Premier League clubs as he looks set to leave the Austrian side this summer.

However, the energetic Mali international appears likelier to move to the Amex Stadium than Elland Road.

The report read, “Given Marsch’s past — and the signings of Aaronson and Kristensen from there already — the temptation is to shop exclusively in the Red Bull network. Tyler Adams and Mohamed Camara, from RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg respectively, have already been linked and would both make sense as signings.

“Camara is the better player of the two — he’s more skilful, more aggressive and a better defender — but he appears to be heading for Brighton, not Leeds.”

Marsch pull needed

The reason the Whites are pursuing Camara’s services so diligently is because of Jesse Marsch’s previous relationship with the club and player.

The American has adopted a policy of bringing in players from his past as they’ll adapt to his system quicker and help with the rebuild.

Even Adams is someone he worked with at Leipzig, so links with both the players are understandable.

It’s now time for Marsch to reach out personally to Camara and try convincing him to move to a familiar environment instead of a completely different one.

Brighton have a good manager but there’s a chance of him being poached by a bigger club, and that is not likely to happen with Marsch.

He can make Camara the front and central part of his rebuild and give him the same kinds of responsibilities as Marcelo Bielsa did to Kalvin Phillips.

In other Leeds United news, the club have now opened talks with an ‘Incredible’ title-winning central midfielder to replace Kalvin Phillips.
