‘Terrible’, ‘So frustrating’ – Many Leeds fans slam one player despite 2-0 win v Huddersfield
Leeds United went top of the Championship standings on Saturday with a 2-0 win against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield at Elland Road.
However, although it was one of the Whites’ best days of the season so far, that didn’t stop some fans from slamming Helder Costa for his performance in the derby victory.
Costa, 26, completed all 90 minutes of the match at Elland Road but failed to impress a section of supporters on social media, who were critical of the Portuguese winger’s ability to convert chances in the penalty area.
It has been an issue for Costa all season.
Since joining on loan from Wolves in the summer, the ex-Benfica ace has scored just three goals in the Championship and supplied only three assists despite playing in every single league game.
For a team top of the league who creates more chances than anyone else, those numbers are not exactly impressive.
Costa has been improving lately and he deserves credit for that but maybe it is just the lack of a prolific striker up front that has hindered him from getting more assists while, on Saturday, it seemed as though he was trying to find a pass rather than a shot at goal, which explains his low scoring record.
That is one of the reasons why he’s been criticised for his performance against Huddersfield.
