talkSPORT pundit drops Leeds United and Sunderland promotion verdict live on air
Tony Cascarino reckons Leeds United are the team to beat in the Championship, although Sunderland are atop the table.
The race for the two automatic promotion spots is shaping up nicely with only three points separating the Black Cats and the Whites at the top of the table.
Cascarino is of the view that Daniel Farke’s side are in a strong position to earn their way back into the Premier League, having done smart business in the summer, while Sunderland and Sheffield United are in the mix for promotion as well.
“It’s always hard, Leeds I would think would be quite well placed, they sold a number of players in the summer and brought in new ones, Leeds are the team to beat”, Cascarino said live on talkSPORT (8:47 am).
“Sunderland are top at the moment, Sheffield United are there, they bounced back after a couple of defeats, and had a two-point deduction.”
What Leeds United need to do to topple Sunderland
With 33 games still left to play, it is imperative that Leeds remain on top of their game to avoid any slip-ups and ensure promotion.
It is worth noting that the Whites have only lost once in the league this season, while Sunderland have suffered two defeats.
However, Farke’s side have shared their spoils with their opponents on five occasions, as opposed to the Black Cats’ two, and that is why they find themselves three points behind the table-toppers.
In hindsight, drawing 3-3 with Portsmouth at Elland Road in the season-opener appears as frustrating as the 1-0 loss to Burnley.

The Yorkshire-based club need to find a way to turn draws into wins to make one of the two automatic promotion spots their own.
After playing out a stalemate with Bristol City, the team returned to winning ways in style on Saturday (2 November), thumping Plymouth Argyle 3-0 at home.
It remains to be seen if Leeds can string together a winning run as they enter the festive season.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites look likely to miss out on the signing of this player ahead of January.
