talkSPORT host Agbonlahor gives Leeds United ‘stale’ verdict as Daniel Farke appointed
talkSPORT host Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Leeds United are making the correct appointment in Daniel Farke, but warned the club could become “stale” if they do not make a swift return to the Premier League.
After plenty of speculation, it was confirmed on Tuesday that Leeds, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, had appointed Farke as the club’s new manager.
Former Villa striker Agbonlahor, who is not the most popular figure among Leeds fans, thinks Farke – who has twice earned promotion out of the Championship at former club Norwich City – is a sound appointment but heeded a warning.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “I think it’s the right appointment, he’s going to do what it takes, and I do think if he can get the right players he wants in there’s no reason Leeds can’t come straight back up,” he said.
“And I think they need to come straight back up because when they last got relegated it took a long time to come back to the Premier League. They can’t afford to spend one, two seasons in the Championship they could become stale in there. So I think it’s a good appointment.”
Agbonlahor finished with a near unfortunate slip, adding among a chuckle: “Hopefully they don’t – hopefully they come back up!”

Farke the right man
There is absolutely no love lost between Leeds fans and Agbonlahor due to some pretty wild takes in the past.
On this occasion, though, he has a more valid point to make.
Farke has absolutely the right pedigree Leeds are looking for as they attempt to make a swift return to the Premier League, and moreover his Norwich sides played some pretty swashbuckling stuff in the Championship.
It is, however, also an absolutely crucial period for Leeds. The farce of last season needs putting to bed, they need to get the 49ers Enterprises takeover fully signed off, and they need to start making the right moves in the transfer market to give Farke the best opportunity at bringing the Whites back to the top table.
Otherwise, loathe as we are to admit it, Agbonlahor is right when he says it will be easy for Leeds to become entrenched in the Championship.
In other Leeds United news, an approach for Billy Gilmour has been touted.
