‘Take the cash and buy Ben White’, ‘£60m is a lot’ – Some Leeds fans react to Elland Rd question
Leeds United fans have offered a range of opinions after being asked whether they would like to see the naming rights to Elland Road sold for £60million.
The Daily Mail reported last week that Amazon are eyeing up the naming rights for Tottenham’s new stadium, with a mega-deal worth £250million on the cards.
That led to ex-Leeds striker Noel Whelan being asked whether he would like to see Leeds strike a similar deal that would see Elland Road named as something else.
Whelan told Football Insider that while he wouldn’t be too happy about the change, he refused to rule out the fact that it could happen in the future.
Whelan’s discussion and the report about Spurs has led to Leeds forums Marching On Together to ask fans on their Twitter account whether they would be happy to see it happen to Leeds.
Marching On Together asked if £60million would be enough for Leeds fan to be happy with the change – a fee that is far smaller than what Tottenham are aiming for.
Yet some Leeds fans would be happy to see the club pocket that kind of cash, with one saying that the club could use it to sign Brighton defender Ben White on a permanent basis once his loan spell in Yorkshire ends.
