Sweden press officer makes Gabriel Gudmundsson injury announcement

Leeds full-back Gabriel Gudmundsson missed Sweden national team training on Thursday.

Gudmundsson is one of several Leeds players called up for their international teams this November break.

The break came at a difficult time for Daniel Farke after Leeds’ 3-1 away defeat to Nottingham Forest made it four losses in their last five Premier League games.

Farke has faced increased pressure at Leeds and will no doubt want all his players to return in one piece.

Gabriel Gudmundsson sidelined due to concussion

Gudmundsson missed Sweden’s Thursday training session ahead of their game against Switzerland in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers due to a concussion, according to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen on 13 November.

Press officer Petra Thoren said the decision was a result of a safety measure. Instead, the left back remained on the sidelines and took pictures with fans at the start of the training session.

Gudmundsson received plenty of playing time under former manager Jon Dahl Tomasson.

However, he was recently replaced by Graham Potter after an unacceptable start to the World Cup qualifiers, with Sweden earning just one point from four games.

There is no doubt that Gudmundsson will be keen to impress this international break, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll feature against Switzerland or Slovenia.

How has Gabriel Gudmundsson performed for Leeds this season?

Gudmundsson already faced injury this season after sustaining a knock in Leeds’ 2-1 win over West Ham in October.

The defender was deemed fit to start against Brighton, but his horrible performance left fans wishing that Farke had left Gudmundsson on the bench.

Despite this, Gudmundsson has been a regular starter for Farke in the Premier League this season.

However, this season has shown that Gudmundsson is prone to the odd mistake, having made one error leading to a goal according to Sofascore. He has also won 48 per cent of his total duels this season.

The left-back has not been at his best this season, but neither has Leeds. Thus, given the circumstances, he has had a decent start to the Premier League period.
