Sweden media rate Gabriel Gudmundsson as Leeds United defender struggles vs Kosovo

Gabriel Gudmundsson isn’t pulling up any trees as the Leeds United defender suffered defeat playing for Sweden against Kosovo on Monday.

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s team hosted Dardanet in the World Cup qualifiers on 13 October, losing 1-0 after Fisnik Asllani’s goal in the 32nd minute.

Gundmundsson was poor in the loss to Switzerland on 10 October and will return to the Whites low on confidence.

Daniel Farke is fighting for Premier League survival at Elland Road, and the left-back’s dip in form arguably won’t be encouraging for the German manager.

Gabriel Gudmundsson given low ratings away from Leeds United after Sweden vs Kosovo

Gundmundsson started for Sweden on the left of a back-five, playing 82 minutes before being substituted by Ken Sema.

The 26-year-old wasn’t able to contribute much to his team as Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres and Liverpool’s Alexander Isak struggled up front.

Svenska Fans rated the left-back 1/5, starting the game poorly and failing to show confidence throughout the fixture consistently.

Fotbollskanalen were impressed with his offensive display and aggression initially, although he was culpable in playing Kosovo’s attacker onside for the goal.

Gudmundsson was a priority target at Elland Road in the summer, but he’s had a mixed start to the season with the West Yorkshire outfit.

Despite the Sweden international being influential in the Peacocks’ starring lineup, his position may be under threat in the team after some poor international displays.

James Justin to replace Gabriel Gudmundsson vs Burnley

Farke’s team will travel to Turf Moor on 18 October, and it will be interesting to see who the German manager will rely on.

The game against the Clarets is arguably a six-pointer, with Scott Parker’s team Leeds’ direct rivals in the race for Premier League survival.

James Justin has proven he can play at left-back for Leicester City, and there’s no reason why he can’t do the same at the Whites while Gundmundsson is allowed to get some rest and take a breather.

The English defender has vast Premier League experience, and now would be the right time for Farke to use the depth in his squad.
