Suspension threshold pushed back amid LFC v Leeds United postponement

Several Leeds United players will not avoid suspension amongst their 19th fixture of the season being rescheduled following a covid outbreak for the Whites.

The final whistle of the Boxing day clash at Anfield was set to be the reset point in terms of yellow card suspensions.

As it stands, Aston Villa’s visit to Elland Road could be Leeds’ 19th fixture but the highly condensed Christmas calendar puts that game at risk of postponement also.

The Whites have six key players on four bookings – Raphinha, Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente, Tyler Roberts, Jamie Shackleton and Rodrigo.

Cooper and Shackleton are doubts for Leeds’ expected 19th game against Burnley therefore they should avoid the risk of suspension – the rest have to be on their best behaviour.

Relief

Taking everything into consideration, the postponement of the Liverpool game is only good news for Leeds.

Yes, it’s a Christmas tradition and everybody wants to watch their team play at every opportunity possible, but that view might’ve changed after 90 minutes at Anfield.

The Whites have suffered a torrid time in recent weeks, finding themselves on the back end of several demolitions. Taking on Liverpool is tough at the best of times so a little more time to turn things around at Thorp Arch would be great.

A prolonged break allows the whole squad more time to rest and recover ahead of a busy second half of the season.

This accompanied with any January signings would see us in much better shape for the rescheduled fixture against Liverpool.

We can beat anyone on our day as proven countless times before. Hopefully, Marco Bielsa’s men can remember that as the fight to remain in the Premier League enters its crucial stage.
