‘Suspect an announcement is imminent’ – Exclusive: Pundit expects Leeds to land ‘big coup’ soon

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson thinks an announcement over Marcelo Bielsa is imminent, with the Leeds players and manager back at Thorp Arch.

He added that it would be a worry until the deal was confirmed and even after – with Bielsa only working on 12-month contracts.

He also said it would be a “big coup” if Leeds did get the deal done and expressed surprise that bigger clubs haven’t come in for him yet.

One big club that Bielsa was linked with is Barcelona but it looks like they’re going to appoint Ronald Koeman this week.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds news, Robinson said, “I’m surprised Bielsa hasn’t been linked with bigger clubs – I said that when Premier League jobs became available.

“The good news is that he’s still around, he’s back at Throp Arch and it will only be a matter of time before we get the announcement.

“Until it’s actually announced there always will be a worry and he’s only ever worked on 12-month contracts, which is a worry as well because if there are big teams that come in and want to take him away, the compensation for a year’s contract is a lot less than it would be for a long-term deal.

“But I suspect an announcement is imminent. The players are back at Thorp Arch and the manager is around and he’s a very honest man who works to his word. He’s been good to his word all this time.

“I don’t think he would still be around if the deal wasn’t going to get announced very soon.

“And make no mistake, it will be the biggest deal Leeds do this summer bar none. He’s been absolutely key to everything that’s happened at Leeds in the last two years and it will be a real coup if he stays and has a go in the Premier League.”

How long does it take to dot the is and cross the ts? Bielsa is a stickler for detail and that counts for what’s in his contract as well as what’s on the pitch.

However, we imagine that Leeds fans will be celebrating very soon.
