‘Superb’, ‘Looks ready now’ – These Leeds fans react as Phil Hay posts footage of U23 star

There’s a calm in the Premier League storm at the moment – maybe just as well after the last Leeds United outing – but everything kicks off again straight after Christmas.

Leeds don’t play until the 27th but then have a big run of fixtures that will go a long way towards defining the season.

It’s Burnley first on December 27 before a trip to The Hawthorns to play West Brom just two days later.

A trip to Tottenham the following Saturday will provide a tough test before an entirely different opponent in Crawley in the FA Cup.

Memories of Sutton are still raw for Leeds fans and we’ve never had a cup run under Bielsa but there’s a balancing act here.

The Premier League is the priority and there are plenty of top-class players in the Under-23s who are desperate for a shot in the first-team.

We think a number of them will get their chance against Crawley and they should be up to the task.

With all due respect to Crawley, they’re not going to be much better than some of the sides the Under-23s come up against.

The Under-23s are warming up nicely, too, topping the Premier League 2 Division 2 table after a heavy 7-1 win over Fulham on Monday.

Plenty of players got on the scoresheet and while there were a number of first-team players on the pitch at Thorp Arch, there were lots of talented youngsters too, like Joe Gelhardt.

Hay posted footage of Gelhardt’s goal and said it would be interesting to see which players would make the cut.

There are plenty of Leeds fans who think that the young striker should get a shot against Crawley, if not before.

A cup run would be nice. A win with goals from players Gelhardt would be fantastic.

Here are some Leeds fans who agree…
