Sunderland in talks to sign Leeds talent Niall Huggins on loan - report

Sunderland have entered talks with Leeds United to sign Niall Huggins on loan this season, according to The Northern Echo.

The young Welshman was involved in the 5-1 defeat at Manchester United, and also missed the under-23s season opener at Crystal Palace.

It is reported that Marcelo Bielsa no longer has Huggins in his first-team plans for the Premier League season.

Leeds officials are said to be keen for Huggins to find a new opportunity for this season alone initially.

There are no suggestions of a permanent deal being involved in this deal, with the Black Cats pushing along with talks.

Time to go?

This is the perfect example of how quickly things can move in football.

Bielsa handed Huggins his Premier League debut in that defeat at Arsenal last season, and also included him on the bench eight times.

There has been plenty of talk surrounding a new left-back at Elland Road, with Celtic’s Matthew Anderson identified.

Graham Smyth shared on Wednesday that numerous approaches have been made, but those have been knocked back by Celtic.

It will be interesting to see if the Whites want to bring someone in before letting the likes of Huggins leave – we doubt that will be the case given that Liam McCarron has started the season in that role.
