Sunderland eye move to hire highly-regarded Leeds staff member - report
Sunderland are eyeing up a swoop to hire Leeds United head of emerging talent Craig Dean as their new head of recruitment, according to the Chronicle.
The north-east newspaper claims Guy Branston, who is currently serving as Leicester City’s loan manager, is also being considered for the vacancy at the Stadium of Light.
“Highly-regarded” Dean is very much a man who is in-demand thanks to the job he has done at Elland Road.
In May, the Daily Mail reported that Premier League and Championship clubs have been impressed by his work alongside director of football Victor Orta.
The job at Sunderland would no doubt be a promotion for Dean but would he really be ready to drop down to League One after so much of his work in West Yorkshire helped Leeds become a Premier League club?
Dean was said to be instrumental in signing Tyler Roberts from West Brom while the Whites also almost signed Daniel James from Swansea – ahead of his move to Manchester United – because of the head of emerging talent’s work.
He seems like one of the best men in English football at scoping out young and cheap talents so it is no shock that other clubs want him.
But the work that Orta and Marcelo Bielsa have done at Elland Road cannot be undone and keeping the staff together is just as important as keeping the playing squad together.
Hopefully Sunderland end up getting Branston from Leicester because it will be tough to replace someone as good at his job as Dean is.
