Sue Smith: Leeds have ‘huge problem’ with injuries

Sue Smith has insisted that Leeds United have a “huge problem” with their injury worries after the 1-1 draw against Newcastle.

Luke Ayling and Raphinha were forced from the field at St James’ Park, adding to the long list of absentees at Elland Road.

Smith was discussing the current result woes of the Whites but urged them not to change their ways because of critics or injuries.

Speaking live on Sky Sports this afternoon, Smith shared her big worry over the current state of the Leeds squad.

“Obviously, I think injuries are a huge problem for them,” she said.

“In particular, defensively, you then look at in the last game, Ayling and Raphinha, both getting knocks so they’ll be hoping that they’re back fit.

“I just think that Leeds need to stabilise. It is just about stabilising, that’s the most important thing for them, but they just haven’t clicked at times.

“Some have said should Leeds then change the way they play, not at all.”

Huge problem.

It is hard to disagree with this point.

Going to the game with Newcastle, Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Pascal Struijk were all out, and it got even worst on the night.

Ayling and Raphinha limped off with what looked like minor issues, and even Patrick Bamford needed heavy treatment in the second half.

All six of these are likely to miss the Carabao Cup clash with Fulham tomorrow, opening the door for numerous under-23 players.

Bielsa will have his fingers crossed that some of those names can return for the clash against West Ham on Saturday, and we could definitely be set for a “huge” problem as Smith suggests.

Fingers crossed for good news this week.
