Sue Smith: Leeds goal disallowed after Rodrigo offside leaves bad taste in mouth

Leeds United secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium yesterday, but they were denied a goal.

Mateusz Klich had his effort ruled out as Rodrigo was in an offside position when the ball found its way into the back of the net, and Sue Smith has insisted on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch that the decision leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth.

The Ref Watch panel were discussing whether the offside laws needed some amendments following the incident, and the pundit agreed.

She said: “It did. Technically, it is the right decision, but you’re like, common on…

“I thought it was going in anyway. Technically, it is the right decision, but it does leave a bad taste in your mouth.”

True

Rodrigo absolutely had nothing to do with the ball and it is unbelievable that being on the line when the ball was clearly going in was enough to tag him as being offside.

The laws are completely laughable at times, and they definitely deserve to be reviewed given cases as this.

At the end of the day, Leeds left London with all deserved three points thanks to Jack Harrison’s hat-trick, but they would have been gutted had they drawn or lost the game because of Klich’s cancelled goal.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men have hardly had luck on their side when it comes to a lot of calls by the officials this season.

Injuries have continued to decimate their squad, and they just cannot seem to get favourable decisions to come their way on the pitch either.

Leeds are having to fight for every single point, and weekend’s win comes as a massive boost as they finally recorded back-to-back wins for the first time in the Premier League this season.

They host Newcastle this weekend, and another victory will help get them away further from the relegation places.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign int’l striker on loan with move already made.
