Stuart Dallas lauds ‘Tremendous’ Joe Rothwell after what Leeds United ace did
Stuart Dallas has heaped praise on Joe Rothwell after the midfielder impressed for Leeds United in their win against Sheffield United.
The 29-year-old played the full 90 minutes as the Whites earned a 2-0 victory over the Blades at Elland Road in the Championship on Friday (18 October).
Rothwell’s midfield partner Ao Tanaka claimed the Man of the Match after the result, but Dallas reckons the Manchester-born midfielder was as good as the Japanese.
“I know Tanaka got the Man of the Match [against Sheffield United], but I thought Rothwell was outstanding, I thought he was brilliant”, Dallas said live on LUTV ahead of Leeds’ Tuesday win over Watford at Elland Road (22 October).
“He slows the game down when he wants, he speeds it up when he wants. His passing, everything about it, I thought he was tremendous.”
Joe Rothwell stepping up for Leeds United during injury crisis
We are still early in the season, but Leeds United already have a crisis in the middle of the park, with Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev sidelined with long-term injuries.
Therefore, the onus was on Rothwell, as well as Tanaka, to step up for the West Yorkshire outfit against Sheffield United and he did not disappoint.
According to FotMob, the former Bournemouth star completed 59 of his 64 passes with 92 per cent accuracy, creating three chances in the process.
He was also heavily involved in defence as he made three interceptions and recoveries each, while also registering a block.

Nevertheless, Leeds United are in the market for midfield reinforcements, with the club eyeing suitable targets in the free agent market.
MOT Leeds News understands the club pulled the plug on signing Cheikhou Kouyate after the former Crystal Palace man failed the second part of his medical.
