‘Stolen’ – Liam Cooper makes Leeds promotion claim after ‘really tough’ disappointment

Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has admitted that he feels as if his side’s promotion celebration has been “stolen” from them.

The Whites were due to play their last league game of the season on May 2nd – a home clash against Charlton Athletic – but the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic means that they have been out of action since mid-March.

And even though the EFL is committed to trying to complete the season on the field if possible, the 28-year-old has claimed that not being able to share any potential promotion with supporters is a real blow.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, he said: “It was very difficult.

“It was really tough [not being able to complete the season as initially planned]. It sort of felt like it had been stolen from us a little bit.

“That could have been our day and our moment to enjoy it with the fans and our families.
“We’ve so sacrificed so much, but we’re going to have to sacrifice more, sacrifice playing in front of our fans, sacrifice our families being able to watch us.”

We couldn’t agree more with Cooper.
It’s been such a long arduous slog for Leeds to fight their way back to the top flight, but the light at the end of the tunnel has always been the dream of that day when we could lift the roof off Elland Road knowing that we’d finally made it.
Unfortunately, that won’t happen now, but the reality is that there are much more important things going on in the world, and when you boil it down the only thing that really matters to the club is that we actually make it to the top flight.
The circumstances won’t be ideal, but hopefully we will be able to make up for it by having plenty to celebrate next season as well.
