Steve Evans once went berserk over ‘horrendous’ referee appointed for Wolves vs Leeds

Leeds will make their way to Wolves in search of their first Premier League points of the season this weekend.

Wolves welcome Leeds to Molineux on Saturday, where the Whites will also be looking to score their first goal from open play.

Leeds’ 1-0 loss to Fulham highlighted the lack of creativity in the final third, as Daniel Farke needs more from Dominic Calvert-Lewin if Leeds are to stay up this season.

Wolves sit rock-bottom of the table, having lost all four games so far, and Leeds will view this as one of their best chances to get another win on the board.

Anthony Taylor appointed for Wolves vs Leeds showdown in Premier League

Taylor has been selected as the referee for Wolves vs Leeds, with Stuart Attwell named as the Video Assistant Referee.

Taylor last officiated a Leeds match on the last day of the 2022/23 season, when Spurs came to Elland Road and won 4-1.

Taylor is vastly experienced when it comes to refereeing in the Premier League, and fans will be happy knowing that Taylor helped out Leeds back in 2020.

In a match against Manchester United, Daniel James, then of United, was booked for diving in a challenge involving Liam Cooper, although replays showed that clear contact was made on the Welsh winger.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer labelled it as ‘shocking refereeing.’

However, back in 2016, one contentious moment involving Taylor drew fury from manager-at-the-time, Steve Evans.

Steve Evans blew his top over Anthony Taylor controversy in Leeds loss vs Sheffield Wednesday in 2016

During a 2-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday in 2016, Taylor disallowed a Leeds goal, having initially given it.

Cooper headed home from a free-kick in the 78th minute, but the goal was disallowed as Wednesday player Fernando Forestieri had not left the pitch following a substitution.

Evans called it a ‘horrendous decision’, and felt that the situation was handled poorly by Taylor.

Farke will be hoping that there will be no refereeing controversy vs Wolves, as his side looks to put the last few results in the league behind them.
