Stephen Warnock hits back at Patrick Bamford criticism

Stephen Warnock has hit back at criticism of Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford after his England debut.

The Whites talisman made his Three Lions debut in the 4-0 win over Andorra yesterday but failed to find the back of the net.

Warnock believes that Bamford would get more chances against Poland, and hopes that he gets that opportunity off the bench.

Speaking on Sky Sports this afternoon, Warnock insisted it was harsh to judge Bamford on this one performance.

“You can’t judge him on yesterday’s game whatsoever,” he said.

“How deep they defended, there was never going to be any space in behind, that’s the type of game he plays – he likes to play off the shoulder.

“It was always going to be a difficult afternoon for him. I think he’s a tidy footballer, he’s different to Harry Kane.

“Hopefully, he’ll get some part in the Poland game and he gets an opportunity to come on in the game.”

Give it a rest.

We are fed up for Bamford, who will have to read and listen to things criticising him after every major moment in his career.

First, he wasn’t good enough for the Premier League and he silenced them, and now it is time for him to do the same on the international stage.

Gareth Southgate was right to give him the call-up and he must keep his faith in the striker against Poland to come and make a difference if needed.

Warnock speaks perfect sense in this defence of Bamford, and with a tighter game expected this week, it could be made for the Leeds man.

Time will tell, but we believe that Bamford could easily get his name in lights and we’ll see if those complaining today still feel the same then.
