‘Starting to make sense for everyone’ – Times details how Leeds promotion battle set to play out

The rest of the Leeds United season and the battle to secure promotion is likely not only to play out behind closed doors, but also at neutral venues.

That’s come from a Times report on Monday that claims governing bodies, not just in football, are “leaning heavily” towards this solution.

The Times quotes one football administrator as saying, “I definitely think that is the most likely solution. It is starting to make sense to everyone.

“Safety of all those is paramount and a limited number of venues also minimises the risk of spreading the virus as well as making it easier to prepare the actual stadium with a deep clean and so on.”

This follows on from EFL chairman Rick Parry saying to fans that every game would be streamed so that fans wouldn’t miss out on any of the action.

We know some Leeds fans who won’t be happy about this but the way we see it, if that’s the only way to finish the season, so be it.

We’ve heard of some Leeds fans who have said that playing at Elland Road wouldn’t work as fans would congregate outside.

That can’t happen – it would jeopardise games being played and could lead to the season being voided, which would be a disaster scenario for Leeds.

Playing at neutral venues also simplifies the logistics behind getting games played with the minimum disruption.

It’s the same for everyone, so no one gets an advantage.

It might seem like a radical plan but these are radical times and the one priority for Leeds is to secure promotion, ideally on the pitch.
