Stan Collymore urges Jesse Marsch to seal Leeds United exit regardless of Premier League status

Stan Collymore has urged Jesse Marsch to leave Leeds United even he manages to keep them in the Premier League for next season.

He believes that the fans are still backing Marcelo Bielsa and think that the American hasn’t done anything to justify his sacking.

Results have been the same if not worse since his departure and the Whites find themselves in the relegation zone – something that did not happen under Bielsa.

He wrote in his Mirror column, “If I was Jesse Marsch, I’d pack my bags at the end of the season and get myself back to the Bundesliga or a big job in the MLS.

“Because the narrative I’m hearing from Leeds fans right now tells me so many of them have disappeared down the rabbit hole of the cult of personality that I find it, frankly, astonishing.

“There seems to be absolutely no dissection of the job Marcelo Bielsa did and the state he left their club in. Instead, it’s all, ‘This is really bad from Marsch and we sacked a legend, an icon, for it. Why?’”

Weird

Collymore seems to be a clear Bielsa hater and is not understanding the nuance here.

He talks like Leeds were certainly going to get relegated if the Argentine was still the manager.

He fails to consider the number of injuries that he encountered all season without properly being backed in the transfer window.

While it’s unfair to judge Marsch after taking over mid season, he was handed the job to keep Leeds in the Premier League.

Given his failed stint at RB Leipzig, there was little proof that he was the right man for the job.

Instead, Bielsa should have been given the time to bring this side back on track and given what he’s done in previous seasons, he could’ve done the same at Leeds too.

In other Leeds United news, a first-team regular has turned down a new Elland Road contract and will sign it only under one condition.
