Stan Collymore makes Leeds United relegation prediction

Stan Collymore has suggested that of the three clubs fighting for survival, Leeds United are more likely to get relegated.

The former Liverpool man wrote for The Daily Mirror (17 May, page 48) that the race is very tight at the bottom, and if in the end, it comes down to goal difference, the Whites will go down and it’s due to Marcelo Bielsa.

He also finds it baffling that some of the Leeds fans still chant his name, which he thinks is rude and unnecessary.

Collymore wrote: “If Leeds end up on the same number of points as Burnley they will go down as a result of their goal difference – and that goal difference will be Marcelo Bielsa’s fault, not Jesse Marsch’s.

“That’s why I find it so odd that a good number of Leeds fans are still signing Bielsa’s name – it’s counter-productive, rude and unnecessary, and as a player or manager I’d find it quite wounding.”

Huge final game

Leeds have a great fight on their hands for survival.

The late goal from Pascal Struijk against Brighton has given them faint hope, as they moved out of the drop zone.

Burnley and Everton both have two games left, and if they win one of them, Leeds will be in deep trouble.

The Whites need to win against Brentford on the final day to give themselves a chance for securing their Premier League safety.

Everton are more likely to avoid the drop despite their 3-2 defeat against Brentford. They face Crystal Palace next at home, which could be their do-or-die fixture.

If they win that game, they will secure safety, and the relegation battle will go down to the final day between Leeds and Burnley.

Collymore has a point here. Under Bielsa, Leeds have played some exciting football, but they were equally naive at the back. They have conceded over five goals in big games against Manchester United and Manchester City, which could come back to haunt them.
