Stan Collymore backs Brendan Rodgers for Leeds United manager’s job this summer
Stan Collymore has backed Brendan Rodgers to take over as manager at Leeds United in the summer after he was sacked by Leicester City.
Rodgers was axed after four years in the job on Sunday (2 April) with the Foxes in the relegation zone, but has previously won the FA Cup with the team and led them to consecutive fifth-placed finishes during his time there.
But while writing his column for Caught Offside (3 April), Collymore believes that Rodgers’ time at the top level has been and gone and backed him to take over at a club like Leeds in the summer with vacancies likely to be available.

“You can argue that Brendan could be seen as the Chelsea man because he was there in the Mourinho years, but you don’t get sacked from Leicester and go to Chelsea,” he wrote.
“I don’t think for a minute that they’ll take him, they’ll go for a bigger name.
“Palace might have employed him if he’d been given his marching orders sooner, but I think he’ll take a sabbatical now.
“Come the summer, if De Zerbi goes then there’s a possibility the Brighton position opens up or maybe the likes of Leeds, Brentford…”
Brilliant
If Javi Gracia keeps us in the Premier League this season then it will be very difficult to take the job away from him on a permanent basis.
But if Rodgers is available, he could be the perfect manager to come into Elland Road and really help to establish us as a proper top flight side.

His record with Liverpool, Celtic and Leicester has been largely excellent and while things have generally ended in a bad way at those clubs, he has the quality to have taken them to great heights during his time.
He plays exciting, attacking football, has a good eye for developing young players – just ask Raheem Sterling – and would be a fantastic option to bring into the club if the option presents itself.
With that said, he’s unlikely to be someone short on offers so we’d have to move quickly and really stand out to get him in. He’d be a terrific option for us though, and someone that could really elevate this young team.
