Stade Rennais to pocket millions from Leeds United sale of Raphinha to Barcelona
Stade Rennais stand to earn at least an eight-figure windfall from Raphinha’s move from Leeds United to Barcelona this summer.
According to Goal journalist Robin Bairner, the Ligue 1 side will be earning £8.5million if he is moving to the Camp Nou for a fee in the region of £60million.
However, French journalist Clement Gavard clarified Rennes chief Florian Maurice’s comments and said that they will make 20 per cent of the resale profit from his sale.
He wrote on Twitter, “Florian Maurice confirms that the #SRFC had negotiated 20% of the resale profit on an upcoming transfer from Raphinha at the time of his departure to Leeds.”
Good business all around
Rennes knew very well that they are set to make a decent windfall from any future sale of Raphinha as his price is only going to rise.
Leeds got him for a relatively cheap fee and they must be proud of how they’ve conducted their business to get in a player of his calibre.
His game went from strength to strength at Elland Road and saw him earn international plaudits as well – getting him his first Brazil call-up.
Barcelona appear all set to sign him and this long-drawn transfer saga finally appears to be reaching its end.
Leeds must now look to use that money to sign a new striker as well as rope in a left-back as Junior Firpo cannot be relied on.
Leif Davis’ future is also uncertain and they cannot go into the new season with just one recognised player in that position.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that a midfielder who was admired by Marcelo Bielsa is set to leave this summer.
