Spotted: Weston McKennie takes part in Juventus training ahead of Leeds United transfer

Leeds United target Weston McKennie was seen taking part in Juventus training, with his proposed move to Elland Road edging closer to completion, according to Italian journalist Romeo Agresti.

The Whites made an opening bid of £24.6million to Juventus, with the player already agreeing on personal terms with the Yorkshire outfit, according to Fabrizio Romano [25 January].

It’s understood that the Serie A giants are keen to offload the 24-year-old and that Jesse Marsch is a huge fan of the USA international (Daily Star, page 46, 26 January). And the deal is reportedly expected to be completed according to Sky Sports Italy [25 January] on Monday [30 January].

Upon his proposed move, the American maestro was seen in Juventus training by Italian journalist Agresti [26 January], who tweeted: “Although subject to a negotiation with Leeds, McKennie is training as per usual”

Promising

It’s not unusual that a player subject to a bid from elsewhere is seen training with his current employers, and the Whites faithful should not see these latest developments as a potential snag in the deal.

The player is reported to be intrigued by the move, for which Leeds are involved in negotiations with Juventus to find an agreement. The Serie A club want to sell, and Marsch wants him which makes a potential deal very promising.

Leeds United

And what a deal this could prove to be, with Marsch looking to solidify and improve his midfield arsenal with added quality.

Considering McKennie’s ability, versatility and relationship with current player Tyler Adams, it is a move which makes perfect sense for the Whites.

If the club are to steer clear of a relegation battle this season, they’ll need undoubted quality in the squad and the 24-year-old offers that in abundance seeing as he possesses tremendous European and international pedigree and experience.

It’s an impressive unit Marsch is building at Elland Road, but can he deliver the wins needed to prop his side up the Premier League table?
