Spotted: Leeds United start work on new Elland Road pitch on Monday

Leeds United have already started work on the new Elland Road pitch after the Premier League season finished on Sunday afternoon.

The playing turf became one of the biggest talking points of the season, and even forced the Whites to acquire a new temporary pitch from Spurs midway through the campaign.

Tom Johnson shared the current pitch being torn up, as the ground staff looked to get their work done quickly and efficiently ahead of next season.

Graham Smyth reshared the news on his personal Twitter account, and also delivered a message of praise to the ground staff.

“Credit to the groundstaff by the way because the pitch really wasn’t a talking point at all after it began to look like a serious issue for a couple of games,” he wrote.

“Little reason to believe it will be anything other than a carpet next season.”

Carpet.

As Smyth suggests, it could be a carpet at Elland Road and it has been a long time coming after the quick turnaround last summer.

We do have to praise the ground staff, who have kept the turf going as long as possible, through the dreadful first stage, to the ice-rink stage, and to the final pitch.

This is their reward, a freshly-laid pitch that will hopefully make their lives much easier ahead of the next Premier League season.

Andrea Radrizzani is making numerous new reinforcements at Elland Road, and it is only going to propel the Whites into Europe in the coming years.

The pitch was the first priority after the season finished, and it looks as though we are already halfway towards that being completed.
