Spotted: Daniel Farke ‘furious’ after Crysencio Summerville incident for Leeds United v Coventry

Daniel Farke has been left “furious” following an incident involving Crysencio Summerville during the clash between Leeds United and Coventry City.

Farke’s made it successive Championship matches without a win as they drew 1-1 with the Sky Blues at Elland Road on Saturday (16 December) thanks to Summerville’s 11th goal of the Championship season early in the second half.

But only moments before he opened the scoring, the 22-year-old entered the book for dissent after he felt he was fouled by Milan van Ewijk only for the referee to wave play on and according to Beren Cross, Farke was left “furious” by the decision.

Writing on his Twitter account (16 December) he said: “Summerville down after a sore one on his toes from Van Ewijk. Summerville goes into the book after that challenge. Gave the referee some lip about Van Ewijk not being disciplined for catching him.

“Farke furious with the decision.”

Terrible refereeing

Every team in the Championship will feel as though the referees have something against them but Leeds United have a genuine reason to be so frustrated as nearly every decision that was made on Saturday went against the Whites.

Leeds will have felt they should have been given a penalty in the first half after the ball appeared to strike a Coventry defender’s arm and on top of that Dan James appeared to be bundled to the ground in the area later in the opening period. It would have been soft, but those challenges have been given.

Leeds United

There was absolutely no reason for Summerville to stop play when he went down in the second half following the challenge from Van Ewijk. The Dutchman had possession of the ball and was advancing up the field when he went to ground so he will have had to have felt contact.

It seems ridiculous that the winger was shown a yellow card for his reaction and Farke had every right to be frustrated by the decision. These sorts of calls can have such a big impact on how a season pans out, luckily it didn’t prove too costly on Saturday but the referees have to do better.
