‘Speechless’ – Radrizzani rages on Twitter over what happened in Leeds win v Millwall
Andrea Radrizzani has taken to Twitter to call for the usage of VAR in the Championship after watching Leeds United win 3-2 against Millwall at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
Leeds went two goals behind in the first half after a penalty was awarded for the visiting side.
Although it was probably the correct call to award Millwall the spot-kick, which was scored by Jed Wallace, the ball appeared to have gone out of play for a throw-in before the incident occurred.
It was not the only controversial decision by the officials at Elland Road in the match and Leeds chairman Radrizzani has since taken to his personal Twitter account to hit out at the quality of officiating in the Championship, adding that VAR should be introduced to the second-tier.
“Speechless,” Radrizzani said: “In two years I have seen a lot but the level shown tonight is not acceptable for a professional league.
“Time to improve, use technology support and prepare professionals fit to work at the top level of football.”
Do we really want VAR in the Championship?
It has caused a lot of controversy in the Premier League this season, perhaps more controversy than what referees would have caused if they did not have video assistance.
Although it has it’s supporters, it would be fair to say that the majority of football fans would be glad to see the back of VAR if it was scrapped by the Premier League.
Radrizzani is unlikely to get the support of most Leeds fans by saying that it should feature in the Championship.
We don’t think it’ll be long before it does creep it’s way into the second-tier though, or at least into the play-offs.
