Sources share what Daniel Farke thought of Leeds United star Georginio Rutter when he joined Elland Road

Daniel Farke was immediately a big fan of Georginio Rutter at Leeds United when he arrived at Elland Road despite his struggles in the Premier League.

Writing on their website (25 May) the Daily Mail report that “sources say he saw particular potential” in the forward, hence the decision not to cut his time at the club short amid a bid from Borussia Dortmund.

Rutter has gone on to have a sensational season in the Championship, registering eight goals and 15 assists in all competitions ahead of the playoff final as the club aim to get back to the top flight.

Georginio Rutter is a special talent for Leeds United

Jesse Marsch didn’t do many things right during his short time in charge at Elland Road, but one thing he did do was sign Rutter from Hoffenheim.

He wasn’t given much of a chance to develop the young French forward in fairness, and after his sacking both Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce opted to prioritise experience in the fight for survival.

That meant the Rutter was outcasted from the squad despite being the club’s record transfer, and it seemed as if his future at the club was bleak when relegation was confirmed.

But Farke came in and gave everyone a clean slate to work with and has been rewarded for it, helping the 22-year-old to the best campaign of his senior career and helping him become a fan favourite.

Leeds fans absolutely love him, he loves the club and he just understands what it means to be part of it all. Keeping him this summer without promotion may prove difficult, but Farke has surely built a special relationship with him that could last a long time.
