Journalist – Sources ‘close to player’ share Leeds chances of signing PL ace with 33 19/20 apps

Leeds United have once again been linked with a move for Manchester United winger Daniel James.

The Whites famously missed out on signing the Welsh international almost two years ago, when Swansea pulled the plug at the last moment.

The Sun reported on Sunday that Leeds are once again interested, and believe they could seal a deal for £12millon plus add-ons if he is made available.

It may not be as straight forward as one may have thought initially.

Manchester Evening News journalist Dominic Booth has reported that James himself is not expecting to move to Elland Road in this window, either on loan or on a permanent deal.

They claim that “sources close to the player” expect him to remain at Old Trafford, with the 22-year-old still part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans this season.

Leeds’ fierce rivals are in the market for another right-winger in this window, but James is still expected to offer strong competition.

It would seem strange for Manchester United to spend £18million on a player, and then almost immediately sell him for a cut-price only some years later.

The 22-year-old made 33 appearances in the Premier League last season, and also started the game against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

United lost that game 3-1, and James was dragged off at half-time after failing to impress Solskjaer in their season opener.

The winger did show great glimpses last season, including a scorching finish against Southampton, and those cameos will be giving the Red Devils hope he will improve if given time.
