'Some player' - Sky Sports pundit blown away by Leeds talent in Sunday masterclass

Leeds United under-23s forward Joe Gelhardt once again caught the eye against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

The young Whites cruised to a 4-1 victory at Thorp Arch, three points that have seen Mark Jackson’s side move up to second in the Premier League 2.

Gelhardt scored twice in the win and continued to shine despite his influential partner Sam Greenwood being sidelined through injury.

The young forward has stepped up massively since arriving and has made it his personal mission to fire Leeds as high as he can.

Gelhardt took control of a penalty towards the end of the first half, pushing away captain Charlie Cresswell to fire home from the spot.

It got much better in the second half though, as he scored what could be considered one of the best from the under-23s this season already.

Collecting the ball from distance, Gelhardt danced his way into the box past many Palace defenders and fired home an unstoppable drive.

Former Leeds defender and Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock was blown away, claiming the striker is going to be “some player” for the Whites.

Warnock is definitely right to get behind the hype of Gelhardt, as he is proving his quality every single week for the under-23s.

Many Leeds fans also agree with their former defender, claiming that he needs to be in the first-team sooner rather than later, one even compared him to Lionel Messi – a long way to go until any sort of comparison.

With Patrick Bamford firing on all cylinders, and both Tyler Roberts and Rodrigo also impressing, it may be a long road, but Gelhardt may have to wait until the FA Cup to make an impact.

We are already counting down the days.
