'So far on' - Phil Hay delivers verdict on reported Leeds interest in 23y/o ace

Phil Hay has admitted that he doubts there is any truth in Leeds United being linked with Lazio defender Luiz Felipe.

The 23-year-old was named as a potential target for the Whites by Italian outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi on Thursday, with talk of a £26.8 million bid being prepared.

But as per Hay himself, Leeds are also expected to put in a firm offer for SC Freiburg defender Robin Koch this week.

And The Athletic journalist has suggested that the Whites are so far along in that process that it could scupper any likelihood of them moving for Felipe as well.

When asked about whether there was any truth in the reported links to the Lazio player, Hay wrote on his personal Twitter account: “They’re so far on with Koch that I doubt it”.

Hay is perhaps the most trusted voice us Leeds fans have, and for him to cast doubts over the likelihood of us making a move for Felipe, it certainly does raise some questions.

That being said, to feels as if we can’t really lose in this situation.

Felipe is a quality player.

Last season, for instance, his pass completion rate was 3.4% higher than Ben White’s, while he also made 1.85 more interceptions per game and had a higher total action success rate, as per Wyscout.

But Koch is hardly a shabby replacement either.

This is a player who has two senior caps for a very, very impressive German national team.

With that in mind, we’d be delighted to see either at Elland Road next term – although Hay’s update would seemingly suggest that it won’t be the Lazio man.

In other Leeds United news, Sky Sports Fantasy Football have confirmed the price of a player who is yet to officially join Leeds.
