Sky Sports reporter shares what he’s been told about Daniel Farke sack hours before Leeds vs Chelsea

Daniel Farke is edging ever closer to the exit door at Elland Road ahead of Leeds United’s showdown against Chelsea.

Speculation over his future in West Yorkshire has intensified after Leeds’ 3-2 defeat to Manchester City saw them lose for the sixth time in seven matches.

As it stands, the Whites are in 18th position, level on points with 17th-place West Ham, although Farke’s side could soon find themselves cut adrift inside the bottom three.

Leeds host Chelsea on Wednesday evening before facing Liverpool on Saturday, two fixtures that could easily return zero points and push the 49ers into dismissing the German.

Leeds vs Chelsea is pivotal for Daniel Farke’s future

According to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, tonight’s game against the Blues is ‘pivotal’ for Farke’s future at the club.

Dorsett revealed that the bosses at Elland Road are ‘concerned’ by the downturn in form during autumn, and if four losses in a row become five, there will be ‘serious conversations’ about sacking him.

Farke has never beaten Chelsea in three attempts, conceding a whopping 11 goals, whilst scoring just twice in the process.

Enzo Maresca is also buoyed by the return of Cole Palmer, with the Englishman set to play a crucial role in their title charge.

Leeds were much improved against Man City at the weekend, particularly in the second half, but it’s a huge ask for the Whites to secure all three points.

Leeds line up Farke replacement

Finishing anywhere above the bottom three is regarded as a successful campaign for Leeds, and they’re currently level on points with 17th-place West Ham.

In that sense, there is every chance the Whites will survive under Farke’s guidance, although losing each of their last four games is worrying, and things could get even worse.

That is why Leeds are looking at Gary O’Neil to replace Farke, someone who has previously achieved survival with Bournemouth and Wolves.

Gary O’Neil’s managerial record
100 games
31 wins
17 draws
52 losses

O’Neil has been out of work since Wolves dismissed him in December 2024, with the 42-year-old eager to return to management.

Leeds have also been linked with Brendan Rodgers, another manager who boasts Premier League experience during spells at Liverpool and Leicester City.

Rodgers could be considered for the role alongside O’Neil and several others if Farke is relieved of his duties, and that is surely sooner rather than later.
