Sky Sports pundits name two Leeds stars in Championship team of 19/20 so far; Jansson makes cut

Regular Sky Sports pundits and hosts of the Not the Top 20 podcast, George Elek and Ali Maxwell, have named their Championship team of the season so far.

Two Leeds players have made the cut with Ben White and Kalvin Phillips representing Leeds.

Writing on the Athletic to explain their choices, Elek said that the rules were that you couldn’t have more than three players from any team.

Their full XI is as follows:

  1. Goalkeeper: Rafael Cabral (Reading)
  2. Right-back: Matty Cash (Nottingham Forest)
  3. Centre-back: Ben White (Leeds)
  4. Centre-back: Pontus Jansson (Brentford)
  5. Left-back: Nathan Ferguson (West Brom)
  6. Central midfielder: Romaine Sawyers (West Brom)
  7. Central midfielder: Kalvin Phillips (Leeds)
  8. Attacking midfielder: Matheus Pereira (West Brom)
  9. Attacking midfielder: Ebere Eze (QPR)
  10. Attacking midfielder: Jed Wallace (Millwall)
  11. Forward: Ollie Watkins (Brentford)

We don’t disagree with either of the two picks from Leeds United, although we’re surprised to see Pontus Jansson make the cut.

However, West Brom are the only side with three players in the best XI and we think either Luke Ayling or Jack Harrison could have snuck in.

We also think that Aleksandar Mitrovic should be leading the line instead of Ollie Watkins.

Ayling has scored four goals and added four assists from right-back for Leeds this season and he’s been the architect of our recent surge back to the top of the table.

He’s scored all his four goals since December 29 and three in his last five games, including a wonder strike against Huddersfield – the last Leeds game before the season was suspended.

Harrison has been absolutely brilliant for Leeds but has suffered from a lack of goals. He’s been unlucky here, hitting the woodwork so many times this season.

In terms of the striker, if you asked Leeds fans whether they would take Mitrovic or Watkins up to the Premier League next season, we think they’d all go for the Fulham striker.
