Sky Sports pundit wowed by what ‘absolute machine’ Glen Kamara did as Leeds United win at Leicester City

Glen Kamara was an “absolute machine” in the Leeds United midfield as he won possession from Leicester City to start a first-half counterattack, according to Jermaine Beckford.

The former Whites striker spoke live on Sky Sports at half-time of the clash at the King Power Stadium on 3 November to laud the Finnish international as he muscled an opponent off the ball to set Crysencio Summerville away on one of a number of breaks he initiated.

Kamara was partnered with Ethan Ampadu in the middle by Daniel Farke as the German put Archie Gray back in at right-back and the former Rangers man more than vindicated that decision with a wonderful showing in the 1-0 win.

Beckford said (8.54pm): “Great bodywork here from Kamara in the middle of the pitch. He’s been an absolute machine in there.

“Giving the ball to Summerville who’s had a mixed evening so far up against Pereira, who’s had a great evening, passed the ball to Piroe on the edge of the 18-yard box.

“There’s been lots half-decent opportunities to score, but in the final third Leicester’s defence have just been really good or [Leeds United] have taken the wrong opportunity to shoot or pass.”

Coming out party

Kamara has been far from disappointing since his £5million move from Ibrox [The Athletic, 31 August] but he really showed why that money was spent against the table-toppers.

Much has rightly been made of Ampadu’s impact since his arrival from Chelsea, and equally the emergence of 17-year-old Archie Gray.

But Kamara was imperious in the middle as he regularly broke up play in the way Beckford highlighted and was always open to receive possession and link up moves for the Whites.

The 28-year-old has been preferred to Gray in the centre of the park of late due to his experience and it was on full display against the Foxes as he showed composure throughout the evening.

A five-point gap at the top of the Championship, and a 14-point gap between the two sides, ahead of kick off shows how strong Leicester have been this term, but Kamara was a huge part of why they were unable to get into their regular groove for much of the game.

Ilia Gruev was given an opportunity in the defeat to Stoke City last week (25 October) but on this evidence the Bulgarian will struggle mightily to overcome the man who arrived at Elland Road on the same day as him this summer.

In other Leeds United news, a £2.6m move is now on the cards in January as an unhappy player has “reformed” after a failed switch to Elland Road.
