Sky Sports pundit: Wilfried Gnonto debut was mystical development no one saw coming at Leeds United

David Prutton has insisted that the debut of Leeds United sensation Wilfried Gnonto in the 2-1 win against Liverpool was nothing short of “mystical.”

The Sky Sports pundit admitted that no one saw it coming as Jesse Marsch, for whatever reason, failed to use him in the senior side since his arrival on deadline day over the summer.

But, Gnonto had a great impact playing a role in the winning goal and will be hoping for more minutes again with Luis Sinisterra now missing through injury.

Writing in his latest column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Prutton shared what stunned him as he watched on at Anfield last time out in the Premier League.

“Luis Sinisterra is facing a spell out injured but Crysencio Summerville has shown composure in big games and we also had the mystical introduction of the Italian that nobody had seen at Liverpool in Willy Gnonto,” he wrote.

“Leeds had tried just about everything else but they hadn’t tried him for whatever reason that I can’t understand and I thought he had a great impact.”

Brave.

Marsch has to be applauded for his management of the young attacker.

At Anfield with the scores level with only minutes left to play, it would have been easy to throw on another defender, especially after losing four games in a row.

Instead, Gnonto was thrown on for his debut and he played a huge role in the winning goal, beating James Milner and Andrew Robertson to cross into the box.

There is no doubt that he will want more minutes now, and with Sinisterra out until the World Cup, it seems, Gnonto has the perfect chance to get just that, starting today.

If winning at Anfield was special, stepping out in front of a packed-out Elland Road for the first time will top it, especially if we can pick up another three points.

Crysencio Summerville will no doubt get the nod to start yet again, and that is deserved, but Gnonto will no doubt be chomping at the bit to get on that pitch, and we can’t wait to see it.
