Sky Sports pundit stunned by ‘horrible’ Leeds United v Watford incident in first half

Gareth Ainsworth was stunned after a Daniel Bachmann error gifted Leeds United an early goal in their game against Watford.

The Whites are on course to extend their unbeaten run in the Championship to six games as they lead Watford 2-0 after 45 minutes at Elland Road this evening (Tuesday, 22 October).

It took Daniel Farke’s side just four minutes to take the lead as Bachmann fumbled a standard shot from Largie Ramazani from the edge of the box and let the ball cross the line.

Reacting to the incident live on Sky Sports News (7:50pm, 22 October), Ainsworth said: “It’s a simple one. It’s a double movement by the full-back Firpo, he gets in behind and he takes it on and he checks out and gives it to Ramazani, who’s been in fantastic form.

“It’s a pop shot from the edge of the box really, Bachmann’s got it and then he loses it, it’s horrible for him.

“He catches it and it’s like it’s his first catch of the night, he’s not used to the ball yet or whatever it is, there’s no excuse though, he’s a goalkeeper.

“He tries to keep it out of the net, but with the watch of the referee buzzing away that means it’s gone over the line and 1-0 to Leeds, Ramazani.”

Leeds United double lead through Brenden Aaronson

Things got better for Leeds United just three minutes later as birthday boy Brenden Aaronson doubled the lead for his side.

Bachmann was at fault again, with the Austrian goalkeeper failing to deal with a cross properly and pushing the ball to the centre of the box instead.

Aaronson, meanwhile, was at the right place at the right time and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Leeds have since received a blow, with Ramazani forced off the pitch. Manor Solomon came on for the injured attacker.

One player from either team has been cautioned so far, with Ao Tanaka and Festy Ebosele having their names taken.

The hosts have notably gone comparatively quieter after the two goals and they must ensure they do not get complacent with 45 minutes still left to play in the game.

Should things go according to plan, the Yorkshire-based club could go atop the Championship table after the game.
