Sky Sports pundit says what ‘first port of call’ must be for Leeds upon PL promotion
Leeds United must learn how to avoid relegation quickly if they want to establish themselves in the Premier League, according to Sky Sports pundit David Prutton.
As it stands, we are unsure of whether or not Leeds will be playing in the Premier League next season due to the uncertainty surrounding the state of the currently-suspended Championship campaign.
But if the season does resume then Leeds are widely expected to continue their march towards promotion and finally return to the Premier League.
Ex-Leeds midfielder Prutton believes that the Whites should be able to hold their own in the top-flight without having to undergo much change from the team Marcelo Bielsa currently has at his disposal.
However he does believe one thing they must learn is how to grind out results that make them capable of surviving.
“From the point of view of the characters they have got and the motivation, drive, determination and the application, I don’t think Leeds would be found wanting in the Premier League,” Prutton wrote on the Yorkshire Evening Post website.
“I just think there are the sides there built to survive, not necessarily win many, many Premier League matches but sides there that know how to stay in the division and that’s what Leeds are going to learn if they go get up there.
“That is going to have to be their first port of call.”
Prutton makes a good point because Leeds, for the last few years at least, have been a team that’s used to winning.
If you look at second-placed West Brom and third-placed Fulham, they’re teams who have recently dropped out of the Premier League and have managers who have been in the English top-flight, to some degree, in their careers already.
It’ll be a new experience for Bielsa but we back him to do wonders if United are a Premier League club by the time next season kicks off.
In other Leeds United news, West Brom’s stance over a potential “civil war” involving Leeds has been revealed.
