Sky Sports pundit reveals what Jesse Marsch told him about Leeds United squad fitness
Jesse Marsch has told Jermaine Beckford that he’s delighted with the way his Leeds United players are performing in games since his arrival.
Leeds’ fortunes have changed massively since the American replaced Marcelo Bielsa as manager with the Whites securing last-gasp winners in each of their last two games.
After beating Norwich and Wolves, the Whites have moved seven points clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone and 11 points shy of the magic 40-point mark with eight games left.

And going into the run-in, Marsch has told Sky Sports pundit Beckford he’s blown away by his players and has no concerns about their fitnesses
“The Leicester game and the Norwich game, performance-wise, that’s what Jesse Marsch wants to impose on the club,” Beckford said on talkSPORT, as shown on the radio station’s official Twitter account on Saturday [19 March].
“I spoke to Jesse about it and he said, ‘this is exactly it, this is how I want to play, I know they can do it now, I don’t need to worry about fitness levels because Leeds are one of the fittest in the league, all I need to do is just mould them into what I want’.”
Pleasing signs
While there are teams below us who’ve played fewer games, Leeds are the team who are in form, who have a new manager who’s got his players performing and, most importantly, already have points on the board.
We’d prefer it if we didn’t have to go through the painful route whenever we win a game. Norwich’s late equaliser and going 2-0 down to Wolves were absolute sickeners.
It made the wins way sweeter, especially as they were both won in stoppage time, but we’d take a boring 1-0 win next time out against Southampton.
Leeds had to win against Wolves, in our opinion.
If they didn’t, they’d have gone into the international break having lost their momentum and stewing over dropped points at Molineux.
But, instead, the squad will be buzzing and they’ll also be boosted by players like Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips returning once the break is over.
Everything is looking very positive right now.
In other Leeds United news, four senior players were named by a journalist after he was asked about potential sales.
