Sky Sports pundit rages at Leeds United ‘disaster’ amid £15.5m Elland Road controversy

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson was left raging at Leeds United after the club had to pay £15.5million to RB Leipzig for the signing of Jean-Kevin Augustin.

The Frenchman initially joined the Whites on loan but only made three appearances for the Yorkshire side before the 2019/20 season was stopped due to COVID-19.

However, due to the transfer agreement, Leeds were still required to pay the transfer fee for the attacker after they secured their promotion to the Premier League, eventually reaching a settlement after multiple bodies found against them in the dispute. Robinson has since branded the whole saga as a “disaster”.

“The whole thing was a complete waste of money,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“It was a complete shambles, the whole deal. The player came, he was unfit, he didn’t want to play, he wasn’t fit enough to play the way the manager wanted him to.

“It seemed a desperate signing at the end. I don’t know the ins and outs of the deal and what they’ve had to pay and how they’ve had to pay it.

“But if you make a deal and you commit to a certain amount of money then you have to pay it. It’s a complete waste and a disaster from Leeds’ point of view. He wasn’t fit enough to play 90 minutes.

“It was a case of desperately trying to find somebody to play when Patrick Bamford couldn’t and take the load off of him.

“The whole thing from start to finish was a mess that Leeds have had to pay the financial price for.”
